How to play

Capitalist is an original property-trading board game. These are the official house rules for this version.

Setup

  • 2–6 players join a game from the lobby.
  • Everyone starts with $1,500.
  • The host starts the game when ready.

Your turn

  1. Roll the dice and move your token.
  2. Resolve the space (rent, tax, card, buy, etc.).
  3. On an unowned property: buy it, start an auction, or pass.
  4. You may build, mortgage, sell buildings, or propose trades while it is your turn.
  5. End your turn when you are done.

Rolling doubles gives you another roll. Three doubles in one turn sends you to the Audit Office.

Streets & sets

  • Owning every street in a color set doubles bare-street rent and unlocks building.
  • Buildings must stay even across the set — build or sell one level on every street in the set at once.
  • Houses and hotels come from a shared supply; they can run out.
  • Mortgaged streets earn no rent. Unmortgage for mortgage value + 10%.

Auctions

If you do not want to buy a property, you can start an auction. All players may bid; high bidder wins. Passing without starting an auction leaves the property unowned.

Freight & utilities

  • Freight lines: rent = $25 × lines owned.
  • Utilities: rent = dice total × 4 (one) or × 10 (both).

Wildcard & Bailout Fund

Draw a card and follow its instructions. Audit release cards may be kept until you need them. Only the player who drew a card resolves it.

The Audit Office

  • Go to jail via Audited!, certain cards, or three doubles.
  • While there: pay $50, use an Audit release card, or roll doubles to leave.
  • After three failed rolls you must pay or use a card before rolling again.

Debt & bankruptcy

If you owe money and cannot pay immediately, sell buildings and mortgage streets, then pay. If you still cannot pay and have nothing left to sell, declare bankruptcy. The last player standing wins.

The Vault

Some payments feed the center pot. Landing on The Vault:

  • 50% chance — lose 10% of your cash to a thief.
  • Otherwise — collect the entire pot.

GO Grand Prix

Landing on PAYDAY starts GO Grand Prix: everyone bets on red, blue, or green; a race runs; winners share the pot by bet size.

Trades

Offer cash, streets (no buildings), and Audit release cards. Mortgaged streets may be traded — the receiver pays 10% interest to The Vault. The other player must accept or reject.
